What is the Agro-Nexus Model?

Many Kenyan small-hold farmers are already growing avocados. However, they are often confronted by the challenges of access to industry standards and best practices, inefficient and unpredictable harvest logistics, and predatory brokers. 

Avocado Farm Trade (AFT) helps to solve these problems for small-hold farmers. Upon joining the AFT farm network, farmers get support and mentorship through the growing season. Once the harvest season arrives, AFT conducts harvest logistics and payment, which are the most reliable and efficient in the area.

By ensuring continual support through all seasons, AFT enables small-hold farmers to achieve better outcomes, which has immediate positive impact on these communities.

Small-hold farmers often have the land and desire to start growing avocados but lack the capital to start. AFT partners with these farmers and quite literally provides the "seed capital" by planting avocado seedlings that have been grown in our nurseries. 

These partnered farms then receive the continual support and mentorship through the entire growth and harvest, just like our farm network does. 

Our partner farms are able to rely on us from seed to harvest and gives them the opportunity to realize earnings that are life-changing.

AFT operates farms that are the center of the agro-nexus and make the whole thing work. At our flagship farms, our network and partner farmers visit to learn best practices through hands-on instruction. They are able to then bring these lessons back to utilize on their own farms.

Our farms employ over a hundred full-time and seasonal workers. The scale enables AFT to support the farm nexus through farm example, knowledge institution and resource synergies.
